ACC Viewer - Make PDFs documents scrollable

ACC Viewer - Make PDFs documents scrollable

It would be great if pdfs could work as pdfs in any other software and we could scroll through them. We have process documents and all sorts of pdfs that are many many pages long and finding stuff there is horrible when you have to click each page and scrolling through is not possible.

It is also weird that because of this behavior the pdf documents cant even be printed, because the system would only print one page. The only solution is the download and than print. Or sync the project with DC to your computer and than print.

On the other hand we also work on projects where our permission level doesnt allow us to download and that makes things diffiucult.

A shortcut I use is to right click on the file and select 'Open in Browser'. This will open the file in your browser and allow you to scroll as normal, and it can be printed from there as normal. The issue with this approach is you can't use the normal ACC tools (markups, issues) etc - it's only a reader.

There is few ideas opened for this already. We really need this option on our projects also.

The viewer in the submittals tool in Build seems more helpful. Although Issues/markups can't be added, being given the option to use this alternative viewer would at least enable a more streamlined experience for viewing documents.

I would like this Viewer to be the default for multi-page pdfs, with this option given in Files in the PDF Viewer Setting menu. The only problem is it needs to be downloaded to be printed so even then not a perfect fix!

To test this you will need to create  a Submittal, and add a multi-page file as an attachment.

On 18th August we released continuous scroll PDF viewer built into the viewer directly. For more information see help here: https://help.autodesk.com/view/DOCS/ENU/?guid=Viewer_Settings_Files_PDF

Status changed to: Implemented

We recognized this implementation of "continuous scroll PDF".

This is not solving the issue described above!

Because when you open a pdf in "continuous scroll" ALL markups, issues, etc... made in the ACC viewer not visible in this mode. Also all this functions not available there. ---> All good functions and the advantages of using the ACC viewer lost while using "continuous scroll PDF!

I remember that before the implementation of this "continuous scroll PDF" there was the option to open the pdf in browser viewer. Now it is replaced by this "continuous scroll" options which do in my opinion the same as the old "open in browser" option.

Question why isn´t it possible to allow the scroll function for pdf´s, with more than one page, directly in the ACC viewer?

Exactly - another function that does not work with PDF in scrolling format is Comparing files. Right now you can only compare PDF-files one side at a time. This hinders smooth workflow when comparing files.

Given that the scrolling function for PDFs in ACC is relatively new, I understand that the Compare tool may not be updated to accommodate this feature yet. I was wondering if an update is expected soon?

Is there currently a more efficient way to switch sides when comparing documents, rather than having to exit the current comparison, reopen the file, press compare, and choose a new page to compare?
