Ability to apply a template folder/file structure after a project has been created

Ability to apply a template folder/file structure after a project has been created

One of the good features of ACC/Docs is that you can create a new project using a project template that contains multiple folders, files, members, companies, roles and settings. This saves a lot of time setting up new projects.

However, it is very easy to accidently forget to select a template when creating a project. In this situation you either have to upload the contents of a template structure manually from an alternative source (and the only way to do this is via the clunky ADC) or manually via the web interface one folder at a time, which is very time consuming in our case, or archive the project in ACC (remember you can't delete projects in ACC, even if you are an account admin) and then recreate the project, but this time remembering to select the project template when doing so. It would be very useful if a project template could be assigned and populate the newly created blank project after that blank project has been created.

Yes, please add this functionality.  When adding the folder structure later to a project, the permission levels for each role linked to the folders and subfolders also need to be imported.

Hi,
I know that applying reusable folder structures at any project stage is crucial.
For this reason I would advice you to use EZFolders, a tool that generates structured folder trees from CSV files or plain text outlines, directly into platforms like Dropbox, Google Drive, or local systems.
Many of our users use it after project creation to enforce consistency, naming standards, and periodic folder assets.
For Autodesk users, you could create a folder template in EZFolders, apply it in Drive or local storage, and then use ACC/Docs as needed.

Hi,
I’ve run into the exact same situation. It’s surprisingly easy to miss the template step when creating a new project, and rebuilding folder structures manually is, as you said, quite time-consuming.

One approach that might help is using an external tool like EZFolders, which allows you to define your entire folder tree (with nested levels) in a CSV or plain-text format and then generate the structure instantly, either locally or in connected cloud storage like Google Drive or Dropbox.

While it doesn’t directly plug into ACC yet, some teams I’ve worked with use EZFolders to build and maintain reusable folder structures outside ACC, then upload those into their project via the Data Connector or mapped drive. It really helps save hours of manual setup, especially when a template wasn’t initially applied.

Hi @carolinaV3DAP , thanks for your input.  I am aware of tools to create many folders and subfolders.  However, for ACC, the permission levels linked to all the roles of members on the ACC project need to be set up.  This is extremely time-consuming, since we work with confidential data and many external parties, so folder permissions can be quite intricate as we cannot apply blanket permissions.
