Cloud model overwrite?

Hi,

I am receiving models every week from an architect (he doesn't use ACC) and I need to add his model to my ACC.

Option 1: Use desktop connector and overwrite the file from week to week.  However, the links through desktop connector disappear on the sheets when I publish my model to ACC through revit.

Option 2: Save the architect's model as a Cloud model (non-workshared) every week.  However, how do I overwrite the file?  Or do I delete the previous file and lose all versioning?  What about the links to that file in my own models?

Your advice?

You cannot overwrite a cloud model in ACC (it's a feature).  I suggest you upload the architect's model via desktop connector, then link that model into a separate Revit model (set it to attachment) and then in turn link this intermediate model into your design model.  As you receive updates of the arch model you will have to open the intermediate model and "reload from", but all your links to your design model should remain.

1. Upload his file to Autodesk Docs.

2. Create a placeholder Revit model linking the architect's model.

3. Add the Revit model with link to your own model.

If there are changes, upload his latest revision and edit the placeholder model linking it to the new file.

For some reason, when I link the intermediate Revit file into my main model, I get an error message (even though my links are set as Attachment).  Any idea why?

What is the error?  Can you still see the attached model in your main model?

I can see the intermediate file in my main model (I added one simple wall to the intermediate file and I can see it so I know the intermediate file loads correctly).

But it tells me the attachment links will be unloaded (see screenshot, in french).

The link to my attachment revit links are as follows:  Docs://Company/projectname/Project Files...

Try "reload from" the rvt models that are attached to the intermediate model.  Then try to link the intermediate back into your main model.

This is probably a case for an Autodesk support ticket as to why it is unloading the models.

That's what I figured, thanks!

This solution (if it works) is good for managing updates to my linked files... however it becomes harder to control visibility of my links in my main file. Do you have any insight on that?

You should be able to change the visibility of any element within the intermediate file and then reload that into your main model.  What is it you are trying to hide or show?

In fact the biggest issue I still see right now is the fact that the linked files through Desktop Connector are not published to ACC (even when I link them through an intermediate file)
