Changing UCS zooms to extents with UCS FOLLOW set to 1 - how do I stop this?

With UCSFOLLOW variable set to 1, ie the view rotates to suit the UCS selected, the drawing zooms to extents everytime, which is a pain when working in a large drawing area but onn a small and specific part of it.  How can I change the setup so that it simply rotates in the view I'm looking at?

I've seen that it weill mimic the last zoom command used, for example if I've ZOOM OBJECTed then it will remember this and repeat that when I change the UCS.... there must be a way of stopping it doing that at all..... please?!!!!  Thanks
