been looking for topics for a while now, but no satisfying solution.
it is al about making a spiral shaped pattern of parts around an axle.
what I found in a topic is:
1.Make pattern of workpoints in part file.
2.Make pattern of components in assembly file to follow part pattern.
1st part is easy and done with coil and pattern within the ipt
2nd part does not let me select the workpoints as feature pattern.
where do we go from here?

Work points apparently don't count as "feature", if you make some small feature (extrude, revolve...) and pattern that then it works.
If you don't want that extra feature on your axle then you could make a seperate file for your "path" and put that in the assembly.
(making good use of derived parts will keep things properly related to eachother.)

Yes, workpoints do count as "feature" for a pattern driven component placement, don't need any extrusion or other feature.

Hmm... ok, so the actual problem/solution is that you can't select a pattern of workpoints in the graphic window but only through the browser. (?)
There were several problems in the orginal files.
1. sketches not constrained
2. Workpoint placed in "odd" way.
3. Direction 1 not set in the pattern.
4. First component not placed at the seed (first point) of the pattern, but rather at the last point.
5. And the final trick - set assembly browser to Modeling View so that the feature pattern (of workpoints) can be selected from the browser.
