Part visibility under transparent components

Good Morning,

I am having an issue with the visibility of components underneath other, transparent components.  The part which needs to be visible is a switch underneath a vacuum formed polycarbonate cover.  When the cover is positioned open such that the switch would be partly visible even if the cover is opaque, the switch is rendered.  When the cover is positioned closed, the switch is no longer rendered.  I have attached JPG's of the two states.

I am on INV PDSU 2012 64 bit.

Randy

Hi! Did you try making the transparent cover invisible in closed position? Does the switch come up then? If yes, could you send me the files or post them here?

Thanks!

Hi Randy,

Our development is working for fixing this issue.

In the meantime I hope you can find useful the following workaround.

Edit the view and activate the hidden lines > OK.

hidden.png

After that the switch should be visible under the transparent part.

Then, edit the view once again and remove the hidden lines visibility.

no hidden.png

The switch should be still visible under the transparent part.

Unfortunately this is just a temporary workaround because the part will remain visible but just until next view update.

I hope you can find it useful anyway while the development provides a definitive fix for this.

Kind regards,

Alessandro

The visibility action is greyed out, so no go.

Inventor tip of the day... Edit the view and uncheck the associative check box (see attached image) then you can control part visibility at the drawing level. With it checked part visibility must be controlled via the design view rep in the model.

Mcgyvr,

Cool.  Who knew?  (guess I should have)

That did in fact toggle the switch to render.  When I made the cover visible again, the switch vanished.

Hi Randy,

The tip from Mcgyvr is also documented here:

http://beinginventive.typepad.com/being-inventive/2011/05/the-visibility-context-command-is-disabled...

Did you try my workaround for having the cover and the switch visible at the same time?

Thanks and regards,

Alessandro

Randy, try the workaround from alessandro about turning on hidden lines, then turn them off again.

Mcgyvr, Alessandro,

That did work.  As suspected, it wasn't a "durable" fix, but allowed me to capture a pdf of the drawing.

Thanks again,

Randy

Hi Rob,

Same problem here, the link for the hotfix isn't working. Can't find it either on autodesk support.

I hope you (or someone else) can help me, because the problem is annoying and i don't want a temporarily fix.
