problem licensing Maya 2011

I am trying to run Maya 2011 64 bit on my HP with 7 but whenever I click on the icon to run it (actually get the licence going) I get a Maya output window saying:

"AdlmInt Error: The AUTODESK_ADLM_THINCLIENT_ENV XML file could not be located" and "license problem in GUI mode launch dialog message"

and another window saying:

"License not obtained - License method environmental variable MAYA LICENSE METHOD = "network", Product Choice  environmental variable "unlimited", and License file override MAYA_ALT_is  not set"

I have tried may things to get this working, even the help of a knowledgable friend to no avail.  Any help/ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I will continue to look through the site for information as well.

You may need to edit the License.env, which is located at:

Windows:

For Maya 2010 - C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2010\bin\License.env

For Maya 2011 - C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2010\bin\License.env

Linux:

/usr/autodesk/maya2010-x64/bin/License.env

/usr/autodesk/maya2011-x64/bin/License.env

Mac:

/Applications/Autodesk/maya2011/Maya.app/Contents/License.env

/Applications/Autodesk/maya2010/Maya.app/Contents/License.env

Sample content for Trial and Standalone:

MAYA_LICENSE=unlimited

MAYA_LICENSE_METHOD=standalone

It is also recommended that you install Autodesk Maya 2011 Hotfix 3.
