license management

Urgent!

We do have 28 Autocad licences, but we have 50 AutoCAD users. If all licences are occupied, no more user can use the software. Sometimes an user invotes the AutoCad, they don't use it and let it idle for a long time. It waste the licence and the other user can't use it.

Unfortunately, the licence management software for autocad can't display the idel time of each user, we can't identify the right user to kill when anther user compliants.

The questions are:

1. We want to allow only a number of user ( identified by IP address ) can access the licences.

2. We want to user to release the licences when AutoCad is idle for a certain period of time

Which software/setting/method can we used??

The platforms for the licence server and users is WinNT.

Thanks very much

You did not state what version of AutoCAD you are using, however search your
help file for 'Resource File'. In particular study the section on the
IPACCEPT statement. Fundamentally you can control access to the AdLM using
parameters set in a resource file. You are going to have to educate users to
quit AutoCAD when not in use. For users who may be quitting AutoCAD but
still require a license to be held for them you can specify a 'hold' time in
the resource files.

You might want to 'suggest' to your users to lock the workstation(s). It
wasn't clear if they had an AutoCAD session open, but decided to multitask, or
are just leaving the machine on and going somewhere else.

I do *not* know if this would fix the problem, other than the suggestion offered
by Simon.
