I am desperate.
I have been trawling the internet trying to resolve the installation issues, but to no avail.
Have spent many days & countless hours and still unable to install Revit 2013.
Here is a summary of what I have tried to date & I am also attaching the installation log file.

Your product is failing to install because the prerequiste program required by the installer is failing prior to the installation of your Autodesk software.
If the prerequisite program already exists on your computer, it is likely newer than the one the Autodesk installer is attempting to install. Please uninstall the prerequisite program causing the issue and run your installer again.

The prerequisite is not already installed and installation still fails, then you may need to make an advanced edit to the setup.ini file to ignore the error. Please make sure you manually install the prerequisite file from Microsoft and then modify the setup.ini file accordingly.

Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately the advice I can gather from the links you sent me do not
appear to be relevant.
According to the log file I sent you you can see that all the prerequisite
programs have installed correctly - the problem seemed to be with the
application install - similar to the one reported by JA Oliviera.
The advice to him/her is to install locally from the C:\ drive using an
account with local admin rights, with UAC disabled and Antivirus switched
off.
I have checked - the only account on my desktop (apart from Guest) is my
userid - Paul, which has administrator rights. UAC is disabled - I set UAC
to 'never notify' and also checked the settings in the registry: both
EnableULA and ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin are set to zero. My antivirus is
ZoneAlarm (firewall & antivirus). I exited the application and checked to
see that no ZoneAlarm processes were running.
Where do I go from here?

Hi Paul
I took a look at your log file and it does indicate that it is the Revit installation that is failing. My first suggestion would be to use Microsoft FixIt to verify that Windows does not consider any previous versions of Revit installed. After that, I would delete the contents of your Windows temp folder (you can access this location by typing %temp% in Windows Explorer) and try the installation again.
If you still run into a problem, please provide the latest version of your install log file as well as a list of other Autodesk programs installed on this system.

Do not uninstall Revit 2011, in my Win 7/64 OS I have Revit 2011 and Revit 2013 working Fine, is your OS set to,
Country = Australia and Language = English Australia for Revit 2013 to install properly.
Thanks - good to know that more than one version of Revit can run on my desktop!
I checked the Region & Language settings in the Control Panel:
Location tab is set to 'Australia' &
Format tab is set to 'English(Australia)'.
Anywhere else I need to check?

I apologize if my last post caused confusion. There should be no problem running Revit 2011 and 2013 side-by-side on a single computer. My recommendation to use Microsoft FixIt was to ensure that all remnants of the failed Revit 2013 installs were removed. My only recommendation for your Revit 2011 installation is to make sure that it includes the latest update release, which I believe would be UR2 in this case.

Hi Tony,
I have just gone through the whole process again, as outlined in my original post. I have checked Region & Language too as Aus01 suggested.
Yet another unsuccessful attempt at installing Revit 2013!
This time I also performed several runs of Windows Fixit & checked uninstalled & installed products. Revit 2013 was not listed. I used the 'not listed' option in uninstall too & entered the product id for Revit 2013 as {0A4B6437-0031-0110-4090-07C5D0680240}. No problems found.
I applied the update (SP2) for Revit 2011 - thanks for mentioning this.
Where do I go from here - have exhausted all options that I am aware of.
Would Revit 2014 be an option to try instead of 2013?
I am copying in the log from the latest attempt at installing Revit 2013.

It seems that your installer is throwing some 1402 errors on the registry.

I have checked the permissions on all the registry keys that had a 1402. With most of them the subfolders did not exist. However, I would have thought with full control in the permissions for the parent folder, any required subfolders would have been created, but when I reran the setup, it still failed for those registery keys.
I then manually created the subfolders & rechecked permissions. All seemed fine. I tried yet again to reinstall after cleaning things up from the latest unsuccessful attempt at Revit 2013 installation.
I set the last install off as I went off to bed & this morning it had failed again. What is concerning is that the elapsed time was 8 hours.
I see in the installation log that there are still two 1402 errors. The one is for a key with a root folder that does not exist in the Registry & I cannot create a root folder. This is a 64 bit machine, so I do not uncerstand why the following registry key is required:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE32\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
The only other registry key with a 1402 code is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Rollback\Scripts
The last two subfolders did not exist, so I have now created them.
However I am reluctant to set off yet another install if I am unable to create the first registry key which had a 1402.
I am attaching the installation log file for you to see if you can spot anything.
Monday is the last Revit Intermediate class I am attending and it seems I will still not have been able to have a copy to work with at home. A bit pointless really as if I ever get the software to install, the instructor would no longer be available if I had any questions with the software.
I am currently unchecking the option of installing the update to Revit, as I thought I just want to get the base version innstalled before it tries to apply an update.

Install Revit 2014 instead of Revit 2013 which is now out of date, you may have better luck with Revit 2014.
I reran the installation this morning after creating subfolders Rollback/Scripts in Windows Registry. However, the two registry keys mentioned in my post above are still throwing 1402 errors.
Surely Revit 2013 should not be this complicated to install!
Revit 2011 installed without any issues.
Is it worth trying Revit 2014?
I have wasted many many hours & days on this and I am at my wits end.

Create a new Administrator A/C and install Revit 2014 from there. If incomplete installation click Uninstall Once, add Content and Australia, install. Revit will Slooowly download missing Content from the Internet (Autodesk) and say Installation Successful.
Is there anyone at Autodesk that can help???? I have had no more replies after acting on advice from Travis.

I have even tried creating a new admin account and installing Revit2013 using this as Aus01 suggested, but that made no difference. I have not tried Revit2014 - if someone at Autodesk tech support think that may have fewer problems please let me know. I do not just want to spend more time trying different options. It is incredibly time consuming and very frustrating.

Creating the reg keys won't do much. You need to replace the permissions from the parent to all the child keys. Typically I take ownership with the administrators group, then I replace the permissions with full control to the everyone user.

As you would see from my earlier posts, I only created the registry folders when setting permissions still didn't work. Doing this & checking the permissions on the new folders did get rid of all the 1402 errors, except the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE32 registry entry. (No such folder exists in Windows 7 Registry)
To recap what I have done now (since this last reply from you):
For each of the previous 1402 error messages:
Then I ran Microsoft Fixit - no problems detected
Thereafter I stopped ZoneAlarm & attempted another install of Revit 2013
The installation hangs with 'Preparing Revit Content' when there are 5 of 12 remaining & finally throws the 1722 error. Install log shows two 1402 errors. I have attached the log file.
Where do I go from here????

Ya gotta replace all the child permissions for full control to the everyone user. That will allow everything full control. The installer as well as your user.
