Revit 2011 Installation Crash

I have tried installing Revit 2011 twice now and got the blue screen of death both times. Error reads "page fault in non paged area". I have a 5gb of hard drive space left after partial installation and am running a Dell Dimension 9150 with Pentium (R) D 3 GZ CPU and 4 GB of ram.
Graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT.

Tried to free up some hard drive space after the first crash but I get an error message that reads installation in progress, finish installation first.
Thats a Catch 22.

Please don't tell me I need a new puter.

Have you other problem with your computer ?
It sounds like you have problem with your ram.
Try to remove one memory and retest the installation.

No I havn't had any other problems and Revit 2010 works great on it. If its a bad memory stick, any way to find out other than trial and error?

5 GB of free hard drive space may be your problem. General rule of thumb is to have more than 20% free space. Less than that and trouble starts to happen. Defrag will complain there is not enough free space, not even function, or the Page file may be having trouble, for example.

You may need to move data files over to an external hard drive, uninstall applications, clear Internet cache, clear temp files (Windows System and User), empty the Recycle Bin, etc.

When this is all done defrag the hard drive and try the install again. If the Page file is overly fragmented you may need to use an aftermarket defrag application to defrag it at reboot or may need a Windows IT person to look at things. Try PageDefrag from Microsoft Sysinternals.

You can also purchase a new hard drive and clone the current system volume over to it or reinstall the operating system. It is a good excuse to reinstall the OS and leave old problems behind.

That worked Douglas, thanks, and I'm liking what I see. I was able to make 23 GB free by just eleminating some old programs I rarely use..

Thank you for the follow up. I am glad you are up and working with Autodesk Revit 2011.

I bet you will find that your system works better with more free space on the System volume.
