Problem to install 3dsMax 2011 and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1!

Problem to install 3dsMax 2011 and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am italian.

I have Win7x64Bit and 3dsMax2011x64Bit.
I tried to install it, with Administrator privilegies and ran the application as Administrator; but after ran the installer I got the RED CROSS for ".NET framework 3.5 SP1".
I read the "3dsMax2011Setup.log" file and seen this:

"... .NET Framework Runtime 3.5 SP1 (This may take several minutes) Failed Failure is ignored, Result=1603..."

- Where is the .NET Framework Runtime 3.5 SP1 for Windows7?
I found this:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ab99342f-5d1a-413d-8319-81da479ab0d7&Displa...

- But I am not sure if it works also for Windows7! I tried to download and install it but nothing happens!

I read this for Win7:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2009/07/27/9850215.aspx

“...Hi Wolfie74 - Windows 7 includes the .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 as OS components.  There is no way to uninstall or re-install the .NET Framework 2.0 on this OS...”

I want also to install Maya 2011.
- Do I need the ".NET Framework 4.0" found here?:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9cfb2d51-5ff4-4491-b0e5-b386f32c0992&displa...

I tried to install .NET 4.0 FullSetup, but nothing changes: the RED CROSS and the error message appers instead!

- What version of ".NET Framework" should I install for 3dsMax2011x64 and Maya2011x64?
- Where are the official links for files?

- How can I do to solve the RED CROSS icon problem and the error message?

Thanks in advance.
Please help!

Hi,

The 2011 Autodesk products use Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5. You may have problems with this component as it is integrated into Windows 7. A couple of things to try when troubleshooting .NET are to turn off then on .NET 3.5 in Windows 7 features or try the .NET Cleanup Utility.

To turn off .NET 3.5 for Windows 7 go to Programs and Features in the Control Panel. Then choose Turn Windows features on or off (left column of links). In the Windows Features dialog box clear the checkmark for Microsoft .NET framework 3.5. Click OK and wait for the changes to be applied. Repeat to turn on .NET 3.5 by filling the checkmark. If either, turning off or on, error you will need to get IT, the computer vendor, or a computer consultant to look at the operating system to resolve the .NET problems.

Tools for testing and reinstalling .NET are the .NET Framework Setup Verification and .NET Framework Cleanup Tools.

I've look this day about this problem, and i can't resolve that, i've try everything and i can't understand how it's possible to have this sort of problems, i've re-install Win7 5 times, format the disk each time and one last with the dos command line, and nothing more, i've try the cleanup utility and the verifying tool from the same author, everything is ok for windows, .net 2, 2.2, 3.0, 3.5, 4 and everything is all-right... But when i launch the installer (as admin of course) there is ALWAYS the redcross problem (and i can't stand that the 3dsmax installer launch a 3.5 sp1 install when it is already on the system...)

Please, found a solution, i NEED help, i've tryied one other version of win7 and it's the same problem...

Thanks in advance.

I installed 3dsMax2011x64bit by leaving the X RED Cross at installation process...

I think that the installlation process give the red cross because it is already installed NET Frameworks 3.5SP1 on Win7.

However all works correctly after installation...

The Max installer architecture calls the .NET installer to test if .NET is installed. If the .NET installer reports back that it is installed .NET would not be on the list for install. Maybe the .NET installer is not properly detecting .NET and reporting it as not installed. I have seen this from other vendor’s installers before. If the other items do not back out you should be OK to run Max. Any components that don’t install (the red X) should have troubleshooting to make sure they are installed and operating properly.

http://cid-27e6a35d1a492af7.office.live.com/self.aspx/Blog%5E_Tools/dotnetfx%5E_cleanup%5E_tool.zip

It is a .net cleanup tool

I am sorry to differ with you.Running Vista 32 bit Home Premeium.  I have two other programs that utilize framework 3.5. I did all your little tips and get this -

I installed .NET framework 3.5 from Microsofts pages.

Then i unninstalled 3DsMAX 2011

Restarted computer.

Installed 3DsMAX again

Same message, ".NET framework not propperly installed..."

Ran cleanup utility

Re-installed framwork 3.5 2011

Uninstalled 3DsMAX

Checked other two programs requiring framework 3.5 - they run fine

Re-install 3dsMax 2011

Start  3ds Max 2011

AND STILL GET THIS MESSAGE -      ".NET framework not propperly installed..."

So explain to me jsut how other two programs that need frameword 3.5 to run work ok, and your program does not !!!!

Seems tome that with all the issues you have there are problems on YOUR end not ours. Not everybody have a screaming Geek computer to make this work. I am sad to say that after more than 15 hours and various installs and uninstalls this program does not work or install properly on three different computers.

It does work! This is exactly what I did to get mines to finally work I downloaded part 1 and part 2. Extracted part 2's files then ran part 1 after installing the things from part 1 I restarted my laptop then ran part 1 again and after that finished up the installation with no problems. I was running into the same problem that you and everyone else was not just with 2011 but 2010 as well and my method worked for both versions!

.NET Framework issues can be resolved using the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool. More information about this tool can be found at my discussion thread here:

Good Luck!
