Moving license to another server

I need to move my Autocad 2002 network license to another server. Any ideas
on how to approach this?

Hi,

if you can move the Network Adapter from the old server to the new one, all
you need to do is install the FlexLM licenseserver on the new server and use
the old licensefile.

If you can't do this, you will have to install the FlexLM on the new server
and get a new licensefile from Autodesk for the new server. They will
propably ask you to fill out a Declaration of Software Removal form so that
they know you aren't running both servers at the same time....

Do the licenseserver install and ordering of the licensefile before you take
the old licence server offline!

This because you also have to edit the LICPATH.LIC -file on all the client
workstations to reflect the changed serversituation. This file looks like
this:

SERVER SERVERNAME xxxxxxxxxxxx
USE_SERVER

The xxx's stand for the ethernet address of the new server's Networkadapter
(without the -'s). Change this and test one workstation (check also on the
new server by doing a Status Enquiry that the license is in fact being taken
from this new server). Then copy the file to all the client workstations and
kill the old server's Flex -service and uninstall the Flex License manager.
(The LICPATH.LIC-file resides in the same directory as ACAD.EXE)

The other way to go is make an environment setting in the OS of the
workstations. Tha name of the variable is:

ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE and the value is the hostname of the new server. This
variable overrides the LICPATH.LIC-file.

Just to add to Petri's advice:

If you move your Network Adapter and License file to another server you will
either need to name the server the same as the old one or edit the license
file to change the hostname field.

For example, if this were the SERVER line in your license file residing on a
server named PARADISE:
SERVER PARADISE 01F059BC9217
Then if you were moving the adapter with MC address 01F059BC9217 to a server
named NAPLES then the SERVER line should be edited as follows:
SERVER NAPLES 01F059BC9217

Make sure that you use NOTEPAD to edit your license file or the editor of
your choice that only writes pure ASCII text documents. Also be careful not
to change anything else in this file or you may break the license which will
require reauthorization.
