Move ADLM to new server

Is it possible to move the ADLM to a new server without having to reinstall
all of the clients?

Thanks,

Yes.

Now for additional instructions we're going to need some information. Win or NW server?
What acad version? Multiple subnets or a single subnet (if win server)? Does the server
that you want to move it to have more than one network card (or a modem).

I'm sure leaving some out.

It is currently on a server running Microsoft Small Business Server 4.5 (NT
4.0 Server). Land Development Desktop 2i. Single subnet. The current
server and the new server both have two NIC's, one for the internal network
and one that is connected to our cable modem.

LDT2i uses the elan adlm. You can move it to a new server, but you have to call autodesk
and get a new auth code.
The dual nic's thing bothers me. The elan adlm isn't supported in a server running with 2
network cards. The adlm service doesn't know which network card to bind to and since in
windows you don't get to specify a start-up order it can bind to either one. If it's been
working for you, give it a try, but understand that you are in the "unsupported zone".
If you are using the acadserver variable on the clients with an @ statement (some thing
like ACADSERVER=@server1) then you'll need to change it or delete it. In my opinion, in a
single subnet environment, there generally isn't a need for the acadserver variable.

Here's the basic routine:
Install the adlm from the LDT2i cd on the new server and get the server code. Call the 800
number with the server code to get an auth code (give them you name, company, serial
number, address, and zodiac sign) and they will give you a new auth code (If they argue
tell them that you are re-building you adlm server, they usually don't care). Put the new
authcode in the new adlm server.
Now if the clients use an @ in the acadserver change 1 of them (or delete). Get everyone
out of autocad. Stop the adlm service on the old server. Start the adlm service on the new
server. Have the clients try to launch autocad. If it works, just disable the service on
the old server and you're done. If it doesn't we have a problem (I'd look at the dual
nics) and we'll have to try and figure out what it is.
