Licenses not returning to FlexLM.

I am using network licenses and flexlm .

My problem is that my users have fired up the software and it was working fine, they exited the software and went home.

They come back the next day and fire up the software again, only to be told that the licenses are in use.

The licenses definately aren't in use by any other user.  It just appears as though they are being locked out and are not being returned to the server upon exit.

Does anyone know why this might be the case?

What is the product?  What is the error code?  And what is the status enquiry of the LMTOOLS?

Hi.

I have almost exact same problem at one of my clients, so I´m bumping this old thread instead of making a new one.

Log files are showing an increasing number of "DENIED" license requests during a normal workday, to the point where it´s not possible to work until license servers are restarted.

Travis, could You please take a look at this to see if You can detect any simple faults?

System variables on clients are:

ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE
@SEGBGLS10;@SESTHLS01

FLEXLM_TIMEOUT
1000000

I am attaching logs and pics of LMTOOLS system settings, please let me know if You need more

I can send You license files and option files privately.

Thanks in advance

Certainly. I think we are detecting something right here.

running the inquiry on SEGBGLS10 gives the surprising answer:

Further investigation reveals that there is another product running on FLEXlm on the SESTHLS01.

Why the other server´s LMtools point to it, I don´t know.

I attach the other product files.

Yes, the NLM can use more than one vendor and in this case, it is connecting and showing the status for the non-AutoCAD vendor.

You can connect to 2080@SESTHLS01 and it should give you the correct status.  Or 27000@SESTHLS01 and get the same result.  You are running more that one license manager and more than on LMGRD.EXE on that machine which can cause you to get denial issues.

You should probably combine your license managers.

For the best method to properly combine your license files, please read my entire thread here and choose the method that best fits your needs:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Installation-Licensing/Combining-License-Files-for-Subscription-and-No...

For best results, respond with any follow-ups here and not in my KB thread. Thanks!

Darren:

No, there are different dates in the files and different dates between the files too.

I suppose it would be a good idea to reactivate all the licenses on both servers at the same day, especially since the product keys (not the license keys) are partially the same. Please see attached files for a  full spec.

Travis: Thanks for joining in and thanks for the tip. New one to me.

Yes, I know that the FLEXLM should be able to handle more than one vendor on the same machine, and the port no´s are different so it should be fine. It puzzles me somewhat that LMTOOLS on one server automatically wants to point to the other one, but that might not matter?

I do not know why the company chose to separate the license managers.

I will consult with them, read Your other thread, and return with some more input.

I will also check the versions of all involved lmgrd, lmutil, lmtools and vendor exe:s. I suppose they should all be the same, right?

Tank You.

Also, Darren is exactly right to point out your date issue.  You have multiple licenses combine in your file but a few have older dates.  Where those products cross over, especially with your Navis and your 3DS, those are not properly combining but are rather being superseded by the newer license.

Both he and I recommend that you get all of your seats regenerated at the same time and then combine them into one file properly (see my same link.)  You can still run a distributed server system if you wish.  But your licenses need to match on the date so they are not ignored by the NLM.

This is very important to how the NLM works and should be done quickly so that you can utilize the product that you are paying for.  Up to this point, you have not been able to use them to their full potential.

Yes, I knew about the date thing causing superseeding problems, just didn´t connect it to denial issues. I will fix it asap.

By combining files but still running distributed system, do You mean a redundant 3-part system or as is? (I haven´t read the thread yet, perhaps I should do that first..:.)

Anyway, thank You both for Your Swift response.
Coming back soon with new info.

Yes, if you have multiple servers, that's exactly how I meant it.  Smiley Happy

gunnar.larsson,

Hello. Your timeout variable is lower that where I like to start. Place it at 3 million. Next, make sure they are on LMTOOLS 11.11. Then stop the license service and then delete it and create a new one from scratch. At this stage, if you are using an options file, remove it and test.

If this does not provide help, I would consider changing the PC names in the license variable to the IP addresses of the machines. This may help.
