Kicking users

To all

With LMtools is there a way to kick a user and free up a license for another
user. We have users that regularly leave their offices and keep acad open.
We would like to be able to either kick them from the LMtools or even better
if the user is idle for more then a set time period then revoke their
license and free it up for someone else (consequently they lose what they
had open)!

Any info greatly appreciated!

Shawn -

You can use the lmremove option of the lmutil command line utility to get a
license back from a user. Currently there is no autodesk supported method
for removing a license after a specified period of inactivity. For some
information on lmremove take a look at

Shawn and Jason, lmremove will pull the license, but if the users app is
active it will reconnect very quickly. This is stated in the globetrotter
doc quoted and was a big point of discussion in one of the AU classes with
Jerry Milana.
What we need is a way to do this. Hopefully the increase in price means we
will see some improvements to the network license manager tools.

LMtools cannot do this but you may look at the LogOff add-on utility - see
http://www.cadstudio.cz/logoff

Hey Vladimir. One question. I'm curious as to how this is an "issue"
"All MDE documents have to timeout for AutoCAD 2000/2000i/2002 session to be
closed"

It would seem that this would be the desired behaviour. Is the problem
actually if someone started a command in one drawing, then switched to
another drawing leaving the command active that the drawing would never
timeout?

Kevin,
yes and yes - this behaviour is standard (you have just to keep in mind that
if you have more drawings opened, session will timeout only after the last
drawing timeouts), and if you have an active command the drawing will not
timeout (e.g. long renderings, running LISP apps...). It is technically
possible to kill (timeout) even a running command but it can be very
dangerous.

Thanks for the info. That's they way I thought it would work. I agree with
you it could be rather dangerous (read loss of data) to do this while a
command is running.
