Installation software in the C:\ partition - Problem performance?

Hello Autodesk specialist,

I have search in the previous topic but found nothing about my problem.

I would like to know if my installation can be a problem. We have any partition (only the C:\ drive) in our clients computers. Currently we work with Autodesk VAult + Autodesk Inventor in the C:\ drive (where all the programs are installed). Is it faster to put our Autodesk Inventor + Autodesk Vault on a new partition (D:\ for example) dedicated for Autodesk work? If a difference exists, it is very important? This could be a solution for our performances problems.

Thank you for your answers.

Max

Though you may see some increase in performance, it probably won't make as much of a difference as you think.  What kind of performance issues are you experiencing?

Even if you install to D:\, there will still be files that will be placed on C:\, like your profile settings and other program configurations.

Hello Travis,

Thank you for this answer. I need to precise two things before to explain the performances problem.

- First of all, we used Vault/Inventor Professional 2011.

- Secondly, our computer configuration is the following: seeattachment called "Config_Computers.jpg".

So, the performance problem appears when we want to open a drawing. It takes to much time to open it. And when it is opened, just the fact to move on it is a real problem. We have lags (2 seconds) and it is impossible to work. I know that our bigger assemblies are heavy but we are at the beginning of the project. In two years, the main assemblies will be much much bigger and it will be impossible to open the files.

We try to work only in local (without Vault) to see if the problem is linked to the Vault, but it is the same problem. The time to open/save an assembly or its  drawing is too higher (around 5/10 minutes). If I want to save a part only, I am obliged to wait 20 seconds! I can tell to the designers to take a coffee during the open/save task but if they do it, I have an addict team to the caffeine!

The only Method to get higher graphicl performance in 2D is to set the "defer update" hook in the document settings.

I have make some tests to know where is the problem but nothing found. Tests were the followings:

- test to open the assembly and all its parts if they are in the begining of the Vault architecture (=short path in local)

- the same but with the current path in the Vault (=long path in local where files are in sub sub sub sub folders)

- used a computer with 6 core by CPU - 2 CPU

- used a computer like you can see in my attachment (4 core by CPU - 1 CPU)

- activate the antivirus

- disable the antivirus

- used a virtual machin for the server

- used a "real" machin for the server (4 CPU, 6 GB static)

==> But I have the same results, it takes the same higher time.

For information, the graphic card has the last version of its driver.

Re,

I see any advice from Autodesk for the Installation except this: "Remember that the root $ is wherever you want to "draw the line" in the structure on your local drive."Link
