I have been asked to help recover from a failed install. We now get the "A newer version is already installed" caption in the Select the Products to Install menu with a greyed-out check box. . There is no %ProgramFiles%\AutoCAD directory nor any similar in the ProgramData\AppData directory.
There are related entries in the registry:
HKLM\Software\AutoDesk\AutoCAD\R18.1\ACAD-9001:409\ServicePacks and ...\UserData,
many in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components,
...CurrentVersion\Installer\Folders, ...CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{5783**6BBA} and in ...CurrentVersion\Uninstall\AutoCAD 2011 - English Version 2.1
It looks like the 2.1 patch was attempted without having the base version installed.
The patchGUID is 3C9BEDC4-CF64-4F39-822B-41404BDC1FBE
The product code is 5783F2D7-9001-0409-0002-0060B0CE6BBA
I am not sure why the SYSTEM account owns the installer data.
SysInternals ProcMon showed a number of rgy hits - especially the ...Uninstall\AutoCAD 2011... key. Renaming this one to something which would not string match didn't help.
The "newer version" error message is embedded in a .dll, there is no script to reverse engineer...
Does anyone know what triggers the "newer version" message or how to bypass version checking in the invocation of the setup.exe program? Any hints or suggestions will be most helpful. thanks
