HELP!! Dwg "read only" "in use" = not true

Our I.T. people are struggling to find out why when CAD users sometimes find
that they get the message drawing is 'read only' or that someone else is
actually in a drawing, when in reality no is. What causes this? How can it
be fixed?

We also have found that sometimes CAD users have saved drawings then on the
following day it is found that the changes were not made. Wether this
relates to the above problem, I do not know.
Help would be extremely appreciated!!

Below is a description of the network connection that we use:

The current setup has a directory on the Nas box called CAD and
all drawings are saved in folders under there.
The Nas box has a share setup on it called CAD, there is an NT
group that is assigned to that share that controls who has permission to
it.
The NAS box is a Powervault 705N (Nas appliance) and has no changes been
made to it apart from naming etc, it uses the system defaults.
The connection between speed between the server
is 100mb, so it is unlikely that the lan will be causing any
problems opening those files.

Hi Russ,

I have seen the Read-Only problem caused by either network or server latency
problems. Another cause is third party network compliance problems with
Microsoft network API. As for loosing your changes, that sounds like a
server cache problem or an API problem at the server OS level. I would
contact your "NAS BOX" vendor and see if they are familiar with your
problem. If not, try using a PC running Windows to service some fles and
try to reproduce the problem. If the problem does not reproduce go back to
the NAS vendor with that information.

We are having the "read only" problem in one office where the server was recently replaced with a new Dell server running Server 2003. We did not have the problem prior to the server upgrade. All users are affected by the problem and all are running ADT 2005 as their primary application.

Is the problem with Server 2003?
