Autocad error - aborting - corrupted files

We have 8 workstations (mixed Windows versions) using Autocad 2000i with
all the drawing files on a single NT4 server (Gateway with Raid 5).
Sometimes users find their files corrupted and they get a message like
this:

Autocad error - aborting
Internal error
U:\global\src\objectdbx\db\imp\src\dbobji:cpp@1331:ewaserased

I'm the IT person, and I'm a little hampered because I've never seen this
occur with my own eyes, but the lead architect says it seems to happen when
people work on different layers of the same base drawing. I have some
questions based on my speculation. If you have any other ideas please
offer them.

Does Autocad allow more than one user to open the same base drawing file at
the same time? Can they open different records of the same file in
read-write mode at the same time?

Does Autodesk have any recommendations about the Windows configuration, in
particular about opportunistic locking?

I have found some maintenance utilities for fixing corrupted Autocad files,
but would you recommend any?

Thank you.

Tom -

Vanilla 2000i does NOT allow more than 1 user to be in a single drawing file at a time (if it is, there something weird is going
on). I understand that autocad MAP will let multiple users open a single file, but I don't use it and don't know all of the details.
If you have more than 1 user opening a drawing this could definitely be a problem.

Thanks Jason.

What I think he meant was (and this is only what I was told) that they
would be working on different DWGs but both DWGs were linked to the same
"base drawing" of the building. I'm told that one DWG for walls and
another for plumbing could be linked somehow to a base drawing file. It's
the base drawing file that I thought might be open simultaneously. Does
that make sense?
