Upgrade from Win98? Advantages for older machine?

Would there be an advantage to my updating my 400mhz 256mb Ram Dell from win98 to win2000 or XP? It only has a 6GB HD and it was originally a win95 machine. I'm thinkin it might be a good time to clean it out and start over. Any thoughts?

I am planning on replacing it next winter but will keep it as my wifes computer for doing Quickbooks, Excel Word...Etc.

If you've got the $$$ then upgrade the machine (basically all new components
except the case, floppy and power cord). You may even want a new case that
has better air flow to help keep todays fast, hot processors cooler.

If you don't have the $$$ then at least upgrade to Win2K. That machine may
be a little slow for XP. However, I'm running XP Pro on a PIII450 with
384MB of RAM at home and don't have any problems, except that a few things
run a little slower than I'd like. But I'm slowly upgrading to a much
faster machine.

I still like W98 on older computers. It gets the job
done.

But, W2k is my opsys of choice for my personal
computers.

If you do upgrade to W2k, make sure you can get the drivers
for the video card, sound card and network card (if you have one).

Of course, there will be lots of advantages such as
Win2000 has 30% better performance than 98. You already have the minimum
requirements for both OS. 6Gb HD is plenty for both, too.

Do not waste your time with an older PC like the one you have: get a new
larger HD (40GB for $99, $20GB for $69) and get a new PC this Winter.
