Is there a good site for honest accurate hardware reviews?

My god, the internet is filled with junk. How are you supposed to filter
through all this drivel, and find the real info? Does anyone have a
favorite site/s? I used to go to cnet, but they seem to have devolved over
the past few years, maybe it is just me. I'm looking to find out what the
market is like for electronic xmas gifts, ie mp3 players, digital
camcorders, video games, pc's, dvd, blah blah blah. But there is so much
info, I don't know what is reliable. At least I can read this group for the
pc goods. Thanks

Well, scratch this group off - with some bad advice given here recently
by someone....

Half-kidding aside, I used to like cnet too, but their advertising has made
them biased IMO at least on the PC side of it. Their general electronics
reviews still aren't too bad and I usually go there first.

I also have looked at www.tomshardware.com for pc reviews - but still do my
own independent search.

I usually resort to doing a google search for the general item I am looking
for and start narrowing down choices as I read review/comments. I'm sure if
anyone else has other places to look - they will post em here.

TechTV (if you have cable) and their associated website is pretty neutral.
So are a host of PC magazines at your favorite news-stand: no one is
influence free, but it helps if you look at reporter reviews instead of
'featured' product segments for true opinions.

Tom's Hardware Guide (http://www.tomshardware.com) is one site I have seen mentioned several times, and seems to be fairly neutral, if somewhat whimsical (they have a great video showing what happens to various processor chips when they overheat). Cadence's reviews help in that tehy are focused on reviewing equipment for use in CAD applications, whereas most of the others look at general usage, and, for graphics, game performance.

I know what you mean. I don't have a pat answer either, but I've had some
success with specific products on
www.epinions.com

A few other sites I like too:
www.crutchfield.com - electronics equipment
www.circuitcity.com - ditto
http://www.dpreview.com/ - digital photography
http://www.steves-digicams.com/ - digital cameras and camcorders

Digging through my bookmarks, I'll throw out the ones I check on a
daily basis:

And, yes, once in a blue moon, I visit the good doctor at
http://www.tomshardware.com/, when he doesn't seem to be too busy
patting himself on the back.

For consumer electronics, I usually head to www.epinions.com. From
there I can usually find links to other consumer-oriented review
sites.
