Dynamic Block Move Point Issues - Creating Water Valve Block with Attributes

Hello all,

This will be my first time posting to this forum and with that being said, I am in need of some help creating a dynamic block.

I have tried everything to my knowledge and have also tried following "How-To" videos, but I am still having a hard time creating a block for a water valve.

The goal of this block is to have a valve symbol, as well as, text box with attribute definitions to display elevations and valve number.

The biggest issue I am having is when I "move" the block using the grip points I created, the grip does not follow with the block and is left in the same spot, as well as, when the visibility state is changed.

Another issue, is the attribute definition text does not display when the block is tested or inserted into a drawing, but it displays within the block editor.

I have attached a drawing of the block. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated and welcomed!

Thank you so much!

Hi Dawn, this forum is typically for customizing C3D via some programming language. There is a forum just for Dynamic blocks where you will likely get more, and frankly, better help for these issues.

I can help with some of this. For the attributes, make sure they have different Tags. Right now, both the Box and Nut attribute definitions have 000.000 as the Tag, they also use the same prompt which is confusing. After changing these to use Box and Nut as the tags, fixing the Prompt for the nut, and adding a - for the default value, closing the block editor, and using ATTSYNC on the inserted block, the attributes then work as expected.

For the grip not moving, the block's main grip at the insertion point will always stay there. I don't know enough about Dynamic blocks to know if that can be remedied. Do you really want to move the valve portion away for the Insertion point? If the intent is to be able to move the text box away from the valve, I would remove the Move action(s) for the valve, as just using the base insertion grip will move it. I've never quite understood why the Move action moves things further than what you are actually dragging.

Here is the link to the Dynamic Blocks forum. You should be able to get the remaining issues answered there. Good luck!

OK, so the Base Point can be moved using the aptly named BasePoint parameter and include it in the selection sets for the move actions.
