Training

Question... I'm putting together a budget for training our people on ADTR3.
Has anyone else figured out a cost per hour, including soft costs, (lost
productoin time, etc)?

Thanks

Randy,

I am involved in a similar situation. I am responsible for leading the
training of our personnel in the transition from R14 to Architectural
Desktop 3. I have just started to give presentations at the office about
the new program, to start informing people about the new concepts. The
total upgrade will occur in about three months. I am going to schedule at
least four days of training for each three or four people, on Saturdays.
Fortunately, I would need only two of these groups, as there are not too
many people, and it makes things easier to handle.

If the training were done outside of the office it would cost about $1000
for a three day course, per person, plus the cost of the days of work that
would be lost, because many training centers offer these courses during
business hours and not only in weekends. If you can do it yourself at the
office without affecting the business hours, that would be more convenient
for the office. It is up to you and your boss to negotiate about your own
extra charges for doing this in this way.

Has anyone noticed the quality of questions in the AutoCAD general
newsgroups? It is appalling to think there are people out there who have no
training drawing parts for production. Asking questions is fine, but a
little research is better for the newbie, in my opinion. They should be
instructed to turn on active assistance if they are having trouble, or look
up the information available in the help file. I think it is a shame that
companies are giving people a tool without training them in the use of it.
Either that, or they are hiring very bad drafters. $0.02 Paul

My company has the learning assistance installed for ACAD 2002 but we don't
have 2002 yet, we are still on ACAD 2000. Only because I asked them about
it did they discover there was such a thing. All problems start at upper
management.
