Install problems

I have Adt2 SP1 installed and working properly. When I installed ADT3
everything appears to load fine. Then when I restart the machine and try and
run either ADT2 or ADT3 I get an error message stating that AC1ST15.dll is
missing or can not be found. I did a search for it a found it in the acad
shared folder. If I uninstall ADT3 and fix ADT2, ADT2 will run again until I
re-install ADT3. What is going on here? I have installed these to programs
together many times and have never had any problems until today.

Does anyone have any thoughts other than that doesn't sound good?

From a search for "ac1st15.dll" in the Autodesk support knowledge base:

Issue

The following error occurs when you start AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT:

A required .DLL File, AC1st15.dll, was not found

Note: This problem does not occur on computers running Windows NT 4.0.

This problem occurs when you start AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT on a computer
where both of the following conditions exist:

a.. The path statement in the autoexec.bat file (added during the
installation of the program) was later removed or modified.
b.. The number of characters in the path statement exceeds the limit
allowed for characters in a path in the Windows 95 or Windows 98 registry.

Solution

Following are two methods you can use to correct the path statements.

Method #1

Correct the path statement in the autoexec.bat file to point to
C:\progra~1\common~1\autode~1, and then reboot the computer before starting
AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT.

Method #2

During installation, shorten the directory names for AutoCAD Release
14, AutoCAD 2000, AutoCAD 2000i, AutoCAD LT 2000i, or products based on
these AutoCAD releases. For example, change the default directory,
c:\program files\acad2000, to c:\acad2000.

Additional Information

Information about setting path statements is available from the
following sources:

Microsoft Windows 95 Resource Guide

Copyright 1995 by Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

Microsoft Windows 98 Resource Guide

Copyright 1998 by Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

The path information contained in the registry is not static. When you
start AutoCAD Release 14, AutoCAD 2000, AutoCAD 2000i, AutoCAD LT 2000i or
products based on these AutoCAD releases, the path statement is rewritten,
as follows:

AutoCAD 2000- and AutoCAD 2000i-based products: The AutoCAD 2000 or
AutoCAD 2000i path information is placed at the beginning of the statement
in the APPATHS registry key.

AutoCAD Release 14-based products: The AutoCAD Release 14 path
information is placed at the beginning of the statement, and the AutoCAD
2000 path information is moved to the end of the path statement.

If the combined paths then exceed the maximum number of characters
allowed in a path statement in a registry key, the characters exceeding the
limit in the AutoCAD 2000 or AutoCAD 2000i path are ignored. AutoCAD 2000-
and AuotCAD 2000i-based products then refer to their path statement in the
autoexec.bat file. If the path statement in autoexec.bat was removed or
modified, the error message occurs.

Note: Network login scripts can overwrite path statements in the
autoexec.bat file. Consult with your network administrator as to whether
network login scripts should be modified to resolve this problem.

Thanks for the reply Joe, however I tried Method #1 and this did not work.
For the time being I uninstalled ADT2 and ADT3 erased the shared acad
directory and re-installed. Still no luck. I gave in and uninstalled ADT2
and re-installed ADT3 and all is fine now, except that I don't have ADT2
installed. I guess for now this is acceptable, I guess.

One other thing to check... All this time, you have been mentioning "ADT2".
I was assuming that you meant ADT2i. Am I correct in that assumption that
you are using the "i" version?

You are indeed correct Joe, my mistake. By the way the 2i was reinstalled
from the disk that shipped with ADT3.
