In the past two days I've gotten two fatal errors in ADT2. On Tuesday a
customer of mine gave me a list of fatals he was getting. Mine were:
unhandled access violation reading 0x0020 exception at 20h This happened
after I was looking at a railing in the object viewer (I was in the add
railing dialog box) and I right clicked in the viewer to exit. The one
today was same message just a different address-- 0x0050 at b0163f7h.
This happened when I was trying to move the z location of a block
created with the hidden-line projection command in the properties dialog
box. Both times I had two drawings open in my acad session. Also
yesterday after opening a second drawing I noticed I had lost my
desktop, window, and help pull-downs and most of my commands in the
other pull-downs were grayed out. I posted a .doc file of a couple of
screen shots from that interesting phenomena. Has anyone heard of
problems with the MDE in ADT2, or encountered a lot of fatal errors? A
couple of people have mentioned it to me that they were having problems
with multiple dwgs. Any feedback will be appreciated.
Hi, Brian. I can't reproduce the two errors you mention, but at least I can
explain why your menus disappeared, and tell you how to avoid that situation
if you're running on NT. Occasionally, when AutoCAD crashes, it leaves
itself running as a process. This can be seen in the NT Task Manager
"Processes" tab. For some reason (probably having to do with some resource
issue), when you have multiple acad.exe processes running, the menus will be
truncated. With ADT, this happens when you have five simultaneous sessions.
So, if you're running on NT, look for those "orphan" processes, and end
them. Note that you should first exit the session you care about, so you
can end the rest without losing any work.
Hope this helps. If the crashes you're experiencing persist, you can always
post the suspect drawings, and try to recreate, and then fix, the problem.
By the way, I've worked (for testing purposes only) with 16 simultaneous
drawings and no crashes.
I had R2 crap out on me 5 or 6 times yesterday, and I still have to plot in
R1. This is not much fun when I have a set of drawings to plot for a client
meeting. Several times I would get a fatal error message, but would not get
thrown out of AutoCAD. Weird. Also, several times I could not switch
between drawings (with MDI enabled) without saving the current one first.
P.S. - All the drawings were from R1.

Here's my saga. Seems to be only with this one drawing. Autodesk is working on
I first had a stand alone copy of ADT1. When I would hit the print button, my
dial up networking display box for getting on the
internet would open.
I switched to ADT2 stand alone. The same thing occurred and I would lock up on
save. Usually 18% or 56%. Sometimes I could
save as. Sometimes it would autosave, sometimes lock up on autosave.
I received the rest of our licenses and put my ADT2 on the individual stations
(installed over the network from the server) and the
license manager on the server. My DUN starts when I double click the ADT2 icon
or when I try to print. I also continue to lock up
on save, usually at 18%.
I opened the drawing from another networked machine (With ADT2 installed the
same way) opened without the DUN starting. I
Once when the DUN came up, I connected. The computer then went back to opening
ADT2 and I got the following Autocad Error:
FATAL ERROR: Security system (hardware lock or network license) is not
functioning or is improperly installed.
None of this happens on the other 4 machines.
I uninstalled dial up networking from the control panel. I deleted my dial up
networking profile for my ISP. I reinstalled them both and
gave the ISP DUN a different name. Now the DUN does not come up when I start
the program, But my save still stalls at 18%.
I cannot change the drawing. Save as does not work. I tried recovering the
drawing. No errors were found. However, as it is
auditing the drawing it says:
Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated as my productivity has
come to a screeching halt.

WOW....that is all i can say. I thought I had problems with printing. Sorry
to see this is happening.
As of today and installing Express tools V7 all my cad stations are not
working. Something is SNAFU'd. I had to unload the express tools to work
again. Damn shame because I became addicted to the new functions.
I was able to start a new version of autocad but not open existing dwgs.

I have been having ADT 2 crash & or Lock up on me while auditing drawings. It would seem that the auditing process should notify one of possible problems in a
gentler manner than locking up or crashing out.
