I have tried to convert a 2009 dwg to a dxf file (ie. 2007, 2004, 2000, and R12) in most cases I am not getting the full content of the dwg to convert In one version I get the drawing border another I get the border and dimensions but not the model space information.
The problem with what your doing is simple, 2009 file saved in that format cannot be read properly by older versions. You need to re-open the file in 2009 and save it to say 2000 format or 2004. That should take care of your issue.
This is a real problem for my company while we try to keep our version of inventor or autocad mechanical up to date some if not most of our sub contractors do not have the latest versions of autocad software and having the ability to if you will reverse engineer or save as an earlier release is important. However the current method to solve this problem is to iges the file out and use SOLIDWORKS to dumb it down to an earlier version of autocad. When our version of autocad comes up for renewal this problem will not be dimissed and other options in cad software will certainly be discussed. Especially when autocad could probably solve this problem quite easily. It is very important to us to be able to provide our subcontractors a viable file they can open and use and although we have been ardent supporters of autocad for over fifteen years this could change due to this problem.
If it is an inventor drawing that you have challenge with, can you able to save this to an AutoCAD drawing inside Inventor and then ouput it as dxf and see whether it helps or not.
If the problem persists, can you able to share a drawing file with us to investigate further.
