Right - Autodesks "workaround" for getting rid of the registry errors is garbage. Why would I want users as power users or admins on their local machine? Just so they can run mad and install all sorts of garbage? I DONT THINK SO!!!

Anyone know the registry keys requiring tweaked to sort this out?

thanks

I dont want to use power users or admins. Thats a stupid idea.

I want to tweak the registry/file structure instead - either manually or group policy. I KNOW there are ways round the rights associated with power users, with adm templates and what not but dont want to go that route.

I presumed it was a read/write issue
so i made entire part of hkeylocal\software\autodesk read/write to authenticated users, and the same for the c:\programfiles\autodesk file folder.

Subfolders have inherit permissions, but this doesnt seem to have cured the problem

How do I get rid of that registry problem???

Upgrade to LT2004: no power user status required.

Gosh. Theres a really clever idea.
I only have 10 licenses to upgrade too!
What a bargain!

Fixing Autodesks LAME programming techniques will only cost me A few hundred quid. Thats gonna be real value for money... Shame I didnt have Full versions of AutoCad, cos then it would cost several thousand to sort.

Excuse the sarcasm fellas, but my word! You aint exactly helping out!

I've figured out 2 similar problems with other products, and bot were related to folder and registry access.

Surely SOMEBODY else has come across this problem. Or do you just let your users loose on their machine....

Maybe you should try looking in the CAD Managers section of this Discussion Group. I would say that the majority of problems being sorted out here have to do with ACLT problems, not really Admin problems which is what your Q sounds like. I would also recommend going in their with a little less brashness, as you have probably alienated yourself from most of the regulars here with that last comment. Remember that this is a peer based group and we choose who and when to give our advice to.
Kind Regards,

This is PEER support: end users and network admins just like you helping
each other out. If you want Autodesk support, have a credit card available
and contact one of the phone numbers in your product box.

This has been a problem since R2000/LT2000, 4 years old now. There are
solutions posted all over this NG, if there was another workaround it would
have been obvious in the last 4-years.

Power User is a fact of life with AutoCAD products up to LT2002. No way
around it if you do not want to do Registry edits that do not give Power
User access to the OS just AutoCAD access. You have to do the work, it's not
that hard and you could have been done by now.

Go to http://discussion.autodesk.com and use the SEARCH box and type POWER
USER and read up on the many solutions we end users have come up with to
date to get around this limitation, which was removed in LT2004.
