Install error 105

I am installing AutoCAD LT 2000i onto a Win95 environment but am getting a couple of errors. When I select the COMPACT install method, it all runs fine until I get an error message that my DCOM95 already installed is a newer version. I am told that I should uninstall that version and run install again. If I OK that error message I get another of “Setup is unable to run a program needed to proceed with the installation. Restart your computer and try again. Error 105”. Re-running install gets me the same thing. Is the second error message to do with the first DCOM error? I cannot roll back the DCOM95 (I will be honest, cannot even find a way to do that!) as we need the version installed for other applications. I tried looking on the normal supprot area before posting this but it must be down, get a “Following Error Occurred Err Number :--2147352567 Err Description:-"" “ message when I try and go there.

Win95 is old, and very problematic with new software. Upgrade
(hardware too, not just OS).

Also, log on to the Autodesk support base, click on the
Knowledge Base link, and type in your error message and see what solutions are
offered:

I work in the PC Support area of our company and do not use AutoCAD at all. Are you saying I should go back to the customer and tell them to upgrade, even though the box says it is fine with Win95?

Thanks for replying!

Unless you work at an IT department that buys all new
hardware, and is still hanging on to Win95 for 'support' reasons, I bet the PC
is 'old' too, so is the Video Card, probably lack of sufficient RAM and free HD
space, as well as having old Win95.

With all the 'i' products from Autodesk, as well as all the
latest software I have come across this last 6 months (Photoshop 6 and Freehand
9), Win95 just does not cut it as an OS. Win98SE is the minimum OS
specification. Video cards and total system capacity also account for
performance improvements.

Antony,

Windows 95b with certain updates mentioned in the Readme is all that is
supported for AutoCAD LT 2000i.

If you work in PC Support then you can understand that Windows 95 is not the
most stable platform available to begin with and rather old for the hardware
and technology currently available. Many applications no longer support
Windows 95 because of all of the problems such as Adobe Photoshop 6 and the
upcoming Internet Explorer 6. It is increasingly hard to find hardware that
will work on Windows 95 and the drivers needed.

The error 105 is not the MSI installer used in LT 2000i error and most
likely a Microsoft component error such as the MDAC you mentioned is
erroring based on something with your environment but it is hard to tell.
There should be an install log in your TEMP directory that may yield more
clues what was the last event before the error.

Peter,

Could you provide more details? The error 105 does is not a MSI installer
error which is what AutoCAD LT 2000i uses. Perhaps if you provide more
details we can provide more answers.
