Erratic mouse wheel zoom

Running Civil 3D 2013 64bit. Mouse is a Logitech M500 corded laser mouse.

The mouse wheel usually functions fine for zooming; however, every so often it will start zooming erratically, making it impossible to work without reverting to manual zoom commands. After a while it will then start functioning normally. I can't see any logic to it.

I've tried this with another mouse (Logitech, different model) and the same thing occurs.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I have a Logitech Wireless Mouse and every so often the slightest touch on the wheel causes a mega zoom that is uncontrollable. I have the Layer Properties Manager and Toolspace Palettes open on my secondary monitor and by closing the Layer and/or Toolspace Palette and reopening the Zoom functionality is restored.

No idea of the whys and wherefores but it works for me

Thanks. Tried closing /reopening paletted which made no difference. However, I am running two monitors and when I swiched to one only the zoom reverted back to normal...

Incredibly annoying whatever the casue.

Have you tried updating the drivers for the mouse and video?

All drivers up-to-date.

After encountering the problem again with only one screen my latest 'fix' is simply to hit minimise then restore... which seems to work.

(until it gets wise to that little trick)

If it weren't for the fact that you've already tried another mouse I'd blame it on a sticky scroll wheel. I'm just guessing but do you have a non-Logitec mouse to try? I've seen a few anomalies when zooming but never anything as bad as what you're getting.

Since minimizing and restoring seems to reset it. It sounds like a video problem. If you're running Win 7 with an Aero theme. Try changing to a basic or classic theme.

Thanks Allen.

I'm currently working away but I believe I'm just running Win 7 Home Basic on the home laptop, with no fancy themes.

I can try another mouse although the main reason I recently purchased a new Logitech was in the hope of alleviating this problem!

I believe the Aero theme is default, so if you've never checked or changed it, that's probably what you're running.  Try right-clicking on the desktop, go to personalize and see what you can find.

This must be a Logitech problem.  I've got two different Logitech wireless mice on two different computers and both computers have this problem with the extreme mouse wheel zooming at random times.  Some days it never happens.  Some days it happens 3-5 times an hour; I haven't found or noticed any patterns to make it occur.

What I do to get back to normal is simply open the "Mouse & Keyboard Settings" application (the Logitech factory app) and from the main window just click the Apply button.  Immediately my mouse wheel zoom is corrected.  Some days I just keep that program open so I can flip back to it quickly to correct the problem.  I guess this resends any settings to Windows?  All I know is that it works like a champ.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip. At least it's good to know there are a few of us with this problem!
