I seem to not be able to add a folder that is on our network for content explorer all I see is my computers folders not the servers folder. Is there away to add them? I've tried to drag and drop and it says cant find or have access to warning.
"Network: .... The network computer must be running Autodesk Content Service to be searchable."
Search help for 'content service' to find out how to load it on your server.
I know this has been awhile but I have 2 computers with autocad 2014 on them and one I have started to add our network files to my computer (they don't want another service to run on our server) and added them to content explorer I even made them public access. But the other computer that has autocad 2014 can't find anything still on the network. I've tried to search online and found some places talking about and showing a button that says add network location on the bottom of content explorer configuration console but mine don't show that. Below is a screen shot of what my content explorer looks like. I am hoping to share my searched folders with the other computer so that computer doesn't need to copy all the files on to the hard drive to search.(I have a large hard drive and fast computer and don't mind copying the network files to my computer). I hope you can help out on this. The second picture shows what the watch folder is set up as in the content explorer. I hope I will be able to do what I am wanting to do.
Yes the files are located on a server. But I copied the files to my computer to search them because the the IT department does not want to add another service to our server.
then he's only going to be able to find them on your computer.
CE can't look at the server, when the index is on your machine. He can point his fcontent Explorer to look at your shared index, but that index cannot point to anything other than what's actually n your machine. To do what you want, you'll have to forget the server, and become the 'autocad file repository' for the company. You end up being the file server, not the server.
which is just to say that CE doesn't work the way anyone wants it to..
So what you are saying I can't direct the other computer to see my indexing scan? He has to re-index from the files from my computer on his computer? So when you say from his computer can point his fcontent Explorer to look at your shared index, but that index cannot point to anything other than what's actually in your machine. How can you get him to see what in my machine? I have shared 2 files on my computer and Neither of them come up.
No, what I'm saying is that he won't be able to access anything on the server machine via CE. unless your IT folk foolishly decide to install the non-manageable content.server service on the mission critical server.
Bear in mind that i've uninstalled it as a useless waste, but...
He can connect to your content.server service, access your locally created index of files on your machine, and use CE to search and browse files in a shared folder on your machine. since I killed hat 'feature', i won't be able to walk you through the steps, but I did experiment and test it out before deciding it was not usable.
As a tip -- try using the Snipping tool under StartMenu|All Programs|Accessories to get screen shots - the PNGs posted are toosmall for me to read.
