found the answer in another thread:
Set precision to something less than whole numbers.
Also, I agree with the concensus in this thread that wipeouts are inferior to background masking.
In fact, I would venture to say that wipeouts in general are a major issue in AutoCAD programming.
They cannot be seen or moved unless their frames are on, and yet wipeouts only do their job when the frames are off.
