I had this great idea to pop a symbol on each layout with attributes for Sheet Title and Sheet Number and a few hidden attributes. Then I could use the Attribute Extraction Tool to create a nearly instant and perfect index. This worked well in a test but when I used it in an actual drawing I ran into a problem. I had 17 layouts in one file, and 17 instances of the title symbol, but the Attribute Extraction Tool showed only 4 instances of the symbol, with one item showing Count of 13. This is not what I expected and not useful. Have I run into some sort of limitation (or dare I say it, bug?) or is there some setting that I need to change?
In this case, making the index was no big deal, but the previous job I worked on had so many files, pages, subcontractors, and changes that keeping the page index up-to-date became a real pain.
Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong with attributes and symbols?
