using State Sets in 3dsmax like Maya´s Render Setup

Hello, Im using 3dsmax 2024, i started working on more complex projects and I need to render a scene with multiple layers.

A coworker that uses MAYA uses the Render setup to configure this layers, example:
1-first layer is the BACKGROUD, the CAR in Arnold properties has visibility off, so emits shadows in the scene, and appears in the windows reflections
2-This layer has the Background as Matte (Arnold Properties) and the car visible

In my scenes I will have to render at least 5 passes to be merged in Compositing, I normally configure each manually, but because probably I have to make changes in the scene, the MAYA coworker suggested me to use RENDER SETUP.

In 3dsmax the one that does the same function is STATE SETS? or there is another tool to handle this configurations?, because I saw her using the RENDER SETUP and looked easier and more organized than the STATE SETS

There is a plugin much better than State Sets that I love/hate. It’s called “renderStacks.” I love it because it does exactly what you are talking about and what I need. I can configure any possible render configuration and it just works. I hate it because it has a learning curve. It’s not too bad, but the first time you use it you will try out all of your cuss words.

There are tutorials from the developer and they help a lot. But now, 6-months in, I understand it and I find it so very useful. Don’t get me wrong, the first time I bought it and used it, I got what I needed. It’s doesn’t take 6-months to learn it. But after a lot of uses, I finally get it and now I understand. It’s just hard initially, for me anyway. But, it’s kind of amazing and not very expensive.
