Unable to assign a materials that work in an imported DWG file

Hello,

My name is Silviu and I am a masters students in History. Being my final semester I got to elaborate a disertation. My project incudes a 3d reconstitution of an ottoman fortress. I built the structure on archaeological evidence, old maps and old sketches.

The real problem is the rendering in AutoCad isn't satisfying (I am aiming as high as I can with the little knowledge I have, eg. kind of photorealistic). I am stuck on assigning materials/textures on the object which is, again, imported in 3ds max (i really need the GPS coordinates and scale to be 99% exact for a future project).

I am doing okish in Autocad but 3ds max really gave me a headache, at least tonight.

I attatched the DWG file down...what in the world could be broken in this that when I assign the desired materials it only shows the general color of it (eg. brick = brown). Dragging materials on random created boxes or spheres works so there is something flawed with my file I think.

Hi. Not near Max or AutoCAD, so I haven't checked your dwg. But from your description it sounds like your problem is caused by the lack of proper UVW's. So put an UVW-map modifier on top of the object(s), adjust it according to your need, and the materials should show up correctly.

If you're unfamiliar with UVW-maps, then read up on it in the help files (press F1).

Hope it helps

Yep,

you were right, I managed to fix it with UVW-mapping. It looks ok now.

Thanks a bunch man.

One more question:

If two or more 3d objects are sharing the same texture in Autocad when they get imported in 3ds max they seem to be merged. How can I avoid that?

Solved my 2nd problem with importing the file with deriving the Autocad primitives by entity.
