transparent materials renders black where objects overlap

Hi!

Thankful fore any light shed on this issue with transparent materials!

I have two objects overlapping each other in some areas (plastic wrapping around a box of matches)

And where it overlaps, the transparent material turns black. Also at the edges  where the boxes surfaces overlap from the viewers point. (Se pics below)

The plastic wrap is a box with Shell modifier put at an inner amount of 0,001mm, outher amount 0.

Then a Tesselate.

Since I never went to a single 3ds max course but learned everthing from youtube and other "self learners"  I might have missed something crucial and totally obvious.

Additional question:

How do I make the plastic wrapping look less soft and more "crisp"

Material:

Anrold standard surface with bump-map in "normal"

Renderer

arnold

Oidn Denoiser

Background color: custom (white)

Scene:

Environmap for lightning.

Material: Arnold standard surface  material 2.JPGMaterial.JPGtändsticksaskar.JPGSolstickan tändsticksaskar inplastad.png

Accepted solution

Check the Transmission Ray Depth. You probably need to increase the value

Do you have an example for what you mean with the plastic being less soft and more crispy?

Thank you so much!

Increased the transmission Ray Depth in the Renderer Setup, Arnold, and problem solved!

With the plastic I mean less like this:

 mjuk plast.JPG

And more like this, no soft edges:

For that effect, I would give a go with noise into the coat bump or the normal. Something like this
