Rotate Env Map

Is there a way to rotate a spherical environment map? I'm using an HDR image to light a scene but I want to change the angle of the light.

The bitmap transform controls don't seem to do anything.

Thanks

If you instance copy your hdri from you environment panel to the material editor you can rotate it there

It dosn't work for a spherical env map. I can change the rotation in the mat editor but the lighting dosn't change.

Use the U Offset.

That still doesnt work. Ive NEVER been able to get it to work from within Max without using a 3rd party workaround. Next suggestion? Also suggest something that youve actually seen work.

@syndicate5 , actually, the suggestion @Anonymous made works nicely. Review your technique and try again. Make sure your settings are correct but it works flawlessly in Max 2018, 2019, 2020 and Max 2021. I tested them all just to make sure.

Are you sure you dragged the map as instance ?

Also, disable real-world map size in preferences before dragging the map into slate.

Hi, I've tried changing the U offset value.

It works, but you have to use values less than ±1.

If you use integer values it seem that the map makes a complete rotation.

Even if the values are locked to 1.0, can you still put in .05 for a 5% rotation for .5 for a 50% or 180 degrees. Does that work at least to keep you going?

Can verify in Max 2022. Instance it to material slate,
Switch to SLATE (didn't have an effect in compact for me)
Then instance the scene sample slot BACK to the env tab
Then ONLY the mapping Rotations / flip horizontal & Output tabs had an effect.
