Is Distributed Rendering replacing Network Render or are people using both of them?
Are there pros / cons in either of them or is Distributed Rendering the new technique to be used?

Apparently, I was mixing things together.

"Distributed  Rendering" exists only for Vray and is therefore irrelevant in general 3dsMax terms.

I know you marked it as solved but just to add some information, distributed rendering in general is a way to have multiple computers render a single image. This is done by distributing the individual buckets to each render node.

In broad terms, network rendering sends different images to each render node which won't really make things faster if you're just rendering one image.

Thanks for adding clarity to the matter.

But does it mean the feature "distributed rendering" exists for other renderers than Vray e.g Arnold?

Mental ray had this feature but Arnold does not has this feature natively as far as I'm aware.
