how to save 24 bits png by default

Hello everyone! I was wondering how i can make Max save its png files in 24 bits by default instead 48. Im using max 2016 and when rendering via batch render or scripted rendering and check the pngs after that they are 48bit. in general this is not a big deal but when using selected render mask and rendering every object in scene seperately with about 100 mtl variations in the end the final folder with pngs is 3 times bigger then rendering manualy and selecting 24 bits.

It will be very helpful if anyone has a solution to that.

Hi,

In the Batch Render dialog box, click Output Path, and after selecting the Name and

The file format, click on the Setup button on the Left to choose the 24 Bit option

1.PNG

note: If you see that the Setup button stays grayed out after selecting the name and the format, just click again

in the name filed.

Hello, and thank you for the provided answer. Unfortunately i am aware of this option but i use scripted rendering also with batch render  so it renders different parts sepparately from different cameras. I choose the 24 bit check but when i run script it saves everything in 48 bits and then the properties of the produced image looks like this and has 64 bit depth.1.jpg

Have you ever manually saved an image and set this to 24 bits instead of 48?  I do not use scripting and Batch Render to submit my jobs, but any time I've started using a new install of 3ds Max it wants to default to 48 bit until I save a file and change it.  After that, it always defaults to 24 bit.

That being said, the default values must be stored somewhere in a file that could be manually adjusted.  I do know that this is different for each user on a computer and I wonder if your scripting is running Max as a default user instead of your user account.  If that's the case, then you'd need to track down the default files for that user account and make the changes there.

I'll poke around to see if I can find anything.

The file you want is called 'png.cfg' and will be found here:

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2020 - 64bit\ENU\en-US\plugcfg

What I am unsure of is where you would need to copy that file to get your scripted rendering jobs to read it.  That will have something to do with how the scripts run, and how they invoke the software.

I hope this gets you moving in the right direction anyway!
