Cryptomatte Photoshop composting with 3dsMax with Exr-IO 2

Hi all,

I have just posted the tutorial for Maya&Arnold, and i wanted to add there the 3dsMax workflow solution.

Many artists have asked for the automatic way of creating Cryptomatte masks in Photoshop out of 3dsMax (Vray, Arnold, Redshift etc) - this is now possible. I think the creatives here can, at last, redefine and speed up the image editing with this method 🙂

Exr-IO 2.00 released https://www.exr-io.com/exr-io-2-00/

3d-io has released the Exr-IO 2.00, the free OpenEXR plug-in for Adobe Photoshop.

The new version of the popular Exr-IO file format plug-in includes support for additional features like cryptomatte decoding, support for mipmaps and ripmaps, reduced memory consumption and numerous quality, compatibility and stability improvements with better error handling.

Exr-IO 2.00 aims to be as feature complete as possible to allow users to read and write the full scope of EXR image data wherever possible.

Hi Igor,

Thanks for your update on this. I also wanted to make sure that users were aware of the following Autodesk article, which refers to the EXR-IO plugin and how to use it:

How to use embedded 3ds Max Render Elements in *.exr files within Adobe After Effects

I very much like 2.0 version because it finally write proper .exr with mipmap for Arnold. Great work!

But one little thing, I can open .exr with #mipmap.RGB channel, but can't figure how properly save custom data from this channel to .exr. EXR-IO always generate from scratch mipmaps from last channel and not save #mipmap channel data.

Can someone point me how to do it?

Hello rgost

thank you for your inquiry. It was probably not clear how to keep name conventions in order to write mipmaps. We have found a way how to avoid such questions in the future by enhancing the saving process. It will work now as you expected it, please download the latest update (thanks for the tip 🙂
