Arnold: scene freezes after every rendering

Hello,

every time I have rendered a scene in 3DS Max 2021 with Arnold, the hole program freezes, no matter I used active shade or production mode.  After 2-3 minutes everything is normal again and I can go on working. I use the Arnold CPU render engine.

3DS Max Version: 2021.1

Arnold: 4.0.5.31

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990x

RAM: 128 GB

1x NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1080ti

Windows 10 Pro

Thanks for your help.

Kind regards,

Florian

Try turn on the log and monitor the text files as info is dumped into it.
Then look at the point where it stalls, and check for a large time stamp gap, see what it's trying to do.

Alternatively upload full log here.

I'm very unexperienced with the log file and I can't find any time stamps. I know there are a lot of missing maps and empty image file names. Couldn't find these with "shift + T" or in the material editor.

I see you try to use .gif filers, stop using those it wont work as you can see its not part of open image.

You have some legacy materials in there, and raytrace, remove or update those to Arnold/physical as well.

Besides that, cant really see anything.

Did you set the log level to full "verbose" ?

Yes, there are a lot of .gif in it, but I can't locate them to delete them or replace them with a jpg or png. Even if I use SHIFT + T there is no gif shown anymore.

I have thousands of different fitness machines from extern companies and can't clean up all These machines bevor importing them into my Scenes... perhaps you a have a solution for this either?

Thank you very much in Advance!

What do you have your automaticdetect threads set at?  Is this turned off and set to -1?  Just a thought.

On a machine with 64 cores (128 threads), I would set the number of threads to -4

I also see this:

[MAXtoA]: Cannot create output folder 'C:/Users/florian.klein.CLEVER-FIT/Documents/3ds Max 2021/scenes/Wörth am RheinC:\Users\florian.klein.CLEVER-FIT\Documents\3ds Max 2021/'.

Have there been any updates to this? Or any solutions? This same thing is happening to me with every render from Arnold.

Possible work-around: I've only just noticed (in the last day or two) the lock up only happens if the material editor is left open while the scene is rendered.  Hopefully this will help others for the moment while the issue is figured out.

System:

Windows 10

AMD 3950X

32GB RAM

RTX 2070 Super

3ds MAX 2020

For what it's worth, 3DS MAX and project file are stored on separate M2 nvme drives

Yes I've made the same experience that the freeze does not occur when closing the material editor bevor rendering.

By the way, my material editor is extremly sluggish

Is better if you start a new thread with more information.

Arnold version, render settings, log, AOVs that you are using. All of that will help understand what is happening. Also, you may have a faster reply on Arnold Answers.
