Adding a lot of dirt

Hello dear colleagues,

I have this object on the image with a black texture.

I would like to add that high amount of yellowish-gray dust and dirt seen on the surfaces and in the corners.

I will have to render the whole thing as a texture and apply it later, since the model will be converted to a game.

I tried VrayDirt but it doesn't add that extensive dirt, and also tried to unwrap UVW, render to texture and just paint on it in Photoshop, but the polygons appear distant on the rendered map and the dirt is not seamless (there are edges staying in between).

The dirt can be of course much much more as seen on the image.

How would you do it?

You are kindly asked to keep the explanation simple, I'm not a professional modeler.

Thank you very much

Balint

Do you have a subscription to Substance Painter? That would do it perfectly and generate the PBR maps for Max and it would look great. If this is a paying job it might even be worth doing Substance Painter for just one month, finish the job, get paid and then move on.

VrayDirt in combination with VrayDistanceTex might get you closer. But if you do a lot of texturing, Substance is good to have in your toolbag. It's really powerful.
