Hello! Perhaps someone will be useful. I didn't have the plug-in installed, I contacted support and they told me that if I have productivity monitoring software, they must be compatible and properly installed in order for everything to work well.

I don't mean to be ungrateful or anything.
However when importing to 3dsmax the naming and layer structure are messed up.
Importing to Blender using (i assume) the same framework keeps everything.
Is it possible to get this for the max plugin too?

Cheers

The meta info ( naming and all the BIM info ) is  lost because the 3ds max plugin code itself is not maintained any longer, and hasnt been for several years. What you see in 3ds Max is the plain GUID node naming scheme that is used by IFC internally, and the meta info is'nt applied in the 3ds max plugin code

The whole ifcOpenShell project focusses on blender so that one get all the goodies.

I just had a deeper look into the current IFC plugin state last weekend, and thought of implementing at least the naming, but sadly i can't promise anything in that regard

I have a intensive, time-grabbing contract going on currently which pays the bills for me 🙂

Completely understand!

No worries. Thanks for the explanation and the current build 😄

(I tried via Blender but the result wasn't good enough)

G'day all! I've started up a discussion here https://github.com/IfcOpenShell/IfcOpenShell/issues/1279 about what we should do to continue supporting (or not supporting) the IfcMax add-on. @spacefrog_ @michaelsonbrit did you have any preferences on what you'd like to see happen? I think it's awesome how this add-on is still being maintained.

Disclaimer: I am one of the primary devs of the BlenderBIM Add-on, so also curious for those here why that might not be suitable for their needs.

Hi, you must put it in your 3dsmax plugin folder.

@blarsen2008 is right (thanks 🙂 ), the file should go to the plugins folder

i plan to release a new version which uses the (new) ApplicationPlugins folder plugin mechanism
https://help.autodesk.com/view/MAXDEV/2025/ENU/?guid=packaging_plugins

This will be 3ds Max 2025 compatible then of course

Not sure when its done though ... might still take several weeks until its done

Is it worth IfcOpenShell keeping an archive server for all of these older files?
