Error Loading .bip File in 3ds Max: "An error occurred while loading this file"

Hi everyone, I'm having trouble loading a .bip file in 3ds Max, and I’m hoping for some advice.

Problem:

  • When I try to load a .bip file, I get the following error message: "An error occurred while loading this file."
  • The file path originally contained special characters, so I moved it to a simpler path, but the issue persists.
  • I tried enabling the Rescale option to adjust the file’s scale automatically, but I still see the same error.
  • I suspect the .bip file was created in a different version of 3ds Max, so it could be a compatibility issue.

Steps I’ve Tried:

  1. Loading the .bip file onto a new biped character.
  2. Using the Rescale option.

Questions:

  • Has anyone encountered a similar issue?
  • Are there recommended steps for loading .bip files created in different versions of 3ds Max?
  • Any alternative solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for any insights you can share!

Sure. Here it is. The bip file couldn’t be posted, so I’ve uploaded it as a zip file.

1. Try opening the file in the same version of 3ds Max it was created in.
2. Find the .max file that matches the BIP skeleton.

If neither of these options solves the problem, say goodbye to that BIP. Try to move on, don’t fall into depression, don’t shut yourself off, don’t drown your sorrows... just let it go.

Thats an obvious case:

the posted board.bip file is not a 3ds Max Biped bip file but a Luxion Keyshot Scene file, which happens to use the bip extension too. So that file never ever will load into Biped 🙂
