understanding maxscript help page convention

Hi every body !

I'm looking for your guidance regarding my new interest in scripting in max. So I obviously started with the help pages wich is very complet... Unfortunatly I don't really understand some simple stuff.

For exemple everthing is written with those " <something> " and English is not my first language so sometime I don't get it.

Let's take something i'm working on for a personal script:

"<void><Unwrap_UVW>.FlattenBySmoothingGroup <boolean>rescale <boolean>rotate <float>padding"

so I replaced <void> by $ but <unwrap_UVW> by .unwrap_UVW so sometimes I don't know what to write.

For now I have:

$.Unwrap_UVW.FlattenBySmoothingGroup ... and then I don't understand what I should write for <boolean> and <float>

my goal here is simply to apply the flatten by smoothing group button in the unwrapUVW modifier.

Thank you in advance

well.. this is typical, when C++ developers write documentation 😉

The very first <void> is the return value of the function.

The <Unwrap_UVW> should hold the Unwrap_UVW node/object.

The other <text> in front of each parameter defines the type of the value.

Should be clearer, if you also read the other chapters about modifiers as well. I suggest you browse existing MXS code and look how others solve things. Also a MXS introduction book is very helpful. Many ppl of my company learned this way..
