Spline UV Mapping script.

I'm currently working on a little project, that's got a poly-hose in it, and I'm having trouble unwrapping it since it's been bound to two objects, then converted to poly, then attatching it to the two small parts it was bound to.

Now, I'm using Max 8, and that does not have the option in the unwrap UV modifier to use splines as UV guides (which was introduced in 2009 I believe), so, my question is this:

Is it possible for me to write a script (bare in mind I'm still pretty new at scripting) that will let me use splines as UV guides like the functionality found in 2009/2010?

I know what you're probably thinking, "Why not just undo all the edits and uv map the hose, THEN bind it to the object pivots.", I tried that, had an edit poly mod on top of the hose in the stack, THEN the unwrap mod, and when i went into the UV editor, I selected one part of the UVs,and tried to move them just a little, and something wierd happened, the selection (of verts, edges, faces or the whole thing) flies round out of focus, and moves alot when i don't want it to, seams to happen most oftern when the object's pivot isn't centered or xforms aren't reset.

Thanks in advance.

Why not look at texture layers...

http://www.mankua.com/

It has spline mapping that works with older copies of max.

Hm, just looking over the Texture Layers tool now, doesn't seem to be free though, and the purchase link seems to be dead.

And on Turbosquid, it's about 295 dollars. Too pricy. No, I need help creating a maxscript for this, if it's possible.
