Seeking Help, uvw Boat model acting weird

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello, I'm kinda new to modeling and have started making a small row boat, The problem is when I unwrap the UVW it goes all weird and the side of the boat trys to become 2 parts instead of been whole and messes the texture up. If some kind soul could possibly take a look at the model and texture for me and explain what im doing wrong I would be forever greatful.

Also below where the oars would go it has some weirdness happening their also.

I will zip the file with the 3dsmax model file and the texture I am trying to use.

If somebody do take a look at it and find the issue could you please explain to me how I could avoid the same problem in the future ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks In advance.

I guess you selected all polygons and did a quick peel? If so, what happened was that Quick peel used the existing seams (green borders) on the model to break the uv`s in tree parts. You can use 'Reset Peel' to merge them together again. You can also draw your own seams using the tools under Peel->Seems.

1) Select all polygons of the model

2) Quick Peel

3) Reset Peel

4) Rotate UV`s 90 degrees so the wood planks face the correct direction

5) Finetune the UV`s to remove distortion from the texture.

Done that but under the cut outs for the oars the texture goes really weird... The rest of the boat seems fine doing it the way you stated.

In this case it might be better to keep the three separate UV islands and use Peel to shape them individually. Just straighten them a bit using pinned vertices. You can weld them together later, if you want. UV Mapping is a broad subject and you might look into some of the tutorials that come with 3dsmax or one the 3dsmax Learning Channel like this one.

Wow nice, I will check out that channel thanks ๐Ÿ™‚ I have been sat here doing some trial and error testing and managed to get my boat looking like the one in the image.. Its a fair bit of messing around but when you see how good it can look once you do it correctly is very much worth the time ๐Ÿ™‚
