Scatter doubts

After created a "railroad", i didnt have the expected results using it as a Scatter distribution object. I used a cube as source and "all face centers" as distribution criteria.
Why i had two cubes on each face?

(maybe each face has two "sides", but, if so, how to solve this?)

Or there is another way to distribute an object along a spline, for example?

My solution was to create a spline, use it as path to the cube, animate it and call the command Tools|Snapshot to create the duplicates.

EDIT:
Now i understand why the objects are "duplicated" in each face:
in reality, to 3dsmax each face is compound of two triangles.
Each of those triangles is a face.
The strange is that i was thinking this is a Editable Mesh caracteristic,
not for a Editable Poly.

Not a consistent tool, in my opinion.

Ya, would love to see the scatter compound object get a facelift, but it hasn't had much work in the last decade. A lot of people now use particles to do a similar trick...

More powerful, but also far more setup and maintenance.
