Render to poly object

How do I take a rendered object and convert it to actual geometry?

Link below as example.

https://freepbr.com/materials/armored-dragon-scales-pbr/

This is most likely a simply low poly sphere that has the PBR texture materials applied to it using a renderer?  I want to convert that into physical geometry for 3d printing purposes.. How do I go about that process?

What are the steps?

what rendering setup should I use?

Is there any additional plugins required to make the above happen?

I am still learning about renderers, setup, etc..

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any helpful advice, links, and or relative information that would help me with this process.

You can use the Height map from a PBR set of maps in the bitmap slot of a Displace modifier in Max, but you will need to add enough mesh resolution (by adding a turbosmooth modifier and with 2 or 3 iterations) to the mesh to get a quality result.   Then, when you get a result you like (you have to play with the amount of displacement strength based on your model size), you collapse the stack into an editable mesh for export tp 3D Printing.  Specific example of what the stack looks like below with a basic geosphere and a substance Painter PBR height map of Steel traction Plate texture is:

Then you collapse the stack to an editable Mesh for export to 3d printing.

Edit: The mesh resolution after adding Turbosmooth modifier for this example was 325K polys.  Depending on the height map and the quality you can obviously adjust the resolution by adding more iterations of turbosmooth.
