Please help! Strange spiral shadows appearing on model???

Hey there!! I'm relatively new to modelling in Max, I'm using the 2015 version as per my University requirements.

I have modeled a few things before, but have never had this ever occur.

Pictures included, but I have these really strange spiral shadow-y patterns showing up on one of my models. I've tried turning off all smoothing groups but nothing changes. I'm ok with leaving it because it still renders just fine, but I'm wondering if it maybe means I've done something bad along the way. I'm also just kinda curious haha!

Would be grateful for any knowledge on this/how to get rid of it! It also persists no matter what mode I use, such as realistic, shaded, clay etc...

Many thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hello. This has not happened to me before, however, the only issue I think is occurring is a Normals issue. Reset the normals by going to Modifiers > Edit Normals > Reset.

Unfortunately that didn't do it! Thank you so much for trying though. It is a very strange thing...

I wonder... Does this appear when rendering?

Not at all! it looks totally fine and normal when I render it. I'm currently UVW Unwrapping the model now, so I'll be able to see in a bit if it shows through once it's textured. I would pop the Max file over but as it's for a University assessment I would probably get in trouble for attempted plagarism/cheating!

Oh! That's great. In that case, it must be a rendering issue.

That looks like viewport shadows.  Turn off shadows in your viewport settings, and it should clear up.  You can right click over the viewport label where it likely says Standard, expand the Lighting and Shadows menu, and uncheck Shadows.
