modeling a simple table - lattice function

Hi!

I'm modelling a simple table which is made up of square extruded bars - I have a box, i convert to edit poly, i add a few connections and add the lattice effect it all works great, 4 sides, but the edges of the square are not aiming where i want, they are in diamond shape and i want them square flush with the surface.

anybody know a setting function to make it flush?

Rather than starting with a box start with a few rectangles and lines and then enable rendering  with a rectangular cross section.  You can easily change the cross section angle and size parameters.

One of the fun things about max is how many ways there are to model, and there's always pros and cons involved.  I'll add an additional method just because it may be a useful technique for you in your next challenge.

Ok...

1.  box

2.  highlight all polygons

3.  Choose the inset tool using the "by polygon" option

4.  Inset to the desired rail size

5.  Choose extrude tool using the "local normals" option

6.  Extrude the depth desired.

7.  Delete the polygons used to create the extrude.

Hi - Great inset tip for building a cube frame.  What happens if you have intermediate lines?  If a side has 4 polygons the inset will be twice as thick in the middle as it is on the outside edges.  Is there a way to work around this?

Thanks.

George

by the way, CAN you have a linear lattice with a square strut section?  (not diamond)
